As if from behind a glass pane,
The Outsider observes moments of existence unfolding in a place that cannot be reached

Artist Statement
I'm an Italian sculptor born in Codogno. My work stems from the need to look beyond the traditional portrait, overturning perspective to reveal hidden aspects of human nature.
Through my ‘The Outsider’ series, I capture moments of everyday life in wooden forms that challenge conventional viewpoints.
The subjects of my sculptures, all handmade using reclaimed plywood, are conceived to be observed ‘as if from below’, from an unusual and unconventional point of view. What fascinates me about this perspective is that it prevents the subject from being easily classified within predefined categories, leaving space for imagination and introspection.
I believe that reflecting on life from this vantage point creates a distance from the assumptions we habitually apply to form and subject, laying bare emotions and feelings freed from impositions, labels and preconceptions.
The viewer is thus drawn into a surreal — sometimes ironical — dimension, removed from systems of control, where the unconscious and the realm of dreams generate new perceptions. Judgment is suspended, openness to possibility emerges, and meaning is co-constructed through an active dialogue with the artist. Just like pauses and silences in literature, those areas of the artwork that resist clear definition can be just as powerful as what is visibly represented.

“It is all very well to copy what one sees, but it is far better to draw what one now only sees in one’s memory. That is a transformation in which imagination collaborates with memory.”
